Gum disease is very common and often painless, which is why many people don’t realise they have it.
Signs to look out for
- Bleeding when brushing or flossing
- Red, puffy or tender gums
- Persistent bad breath
- Gums pulling away from teeth
- Loose teeth or a changing bite
The stages
Gingivitis is inflammation of the gums alone and is usually reversible. Periodontitis affects the bone and tissues supporting the teeth and needs ongoing management.
